After following the Air Force for 20 years our family moved back to Jack’s hometown of Newberg, Oregon. We had a whole list of what we wanted to do including having land and animals to help graze it. We adopted a free llama, but Sandy particularly wanted a small animal that would have a spinable fleece. Enter Susie Sizemore from Misty View Farm and her extremely friendly sheep. On our first visit to Susie’s farm, Reba demanded attention from Jack the whole time and our love for Shetlands was born. We figure that since they come to animal crackers, wag their tails, love scratches under the chin, and grow beautiful fleeces while decorating the pasture with lovely color, what more could you want? They don’t bark and other than an occasional charge at one of the cats they all seem to get along pretty well. We have been breeding Shetlands ever since. Watching the lambs race around the pasture every spring and summer is a lot of fun. We have also added some laying hens for the eggs they provide and more color and pasture entertainment. So, with llama beans, sheep and chicken manure, we should have a pretty good garden!!
